CASE STUDY: Mobile App Design
The trukPLEASE app is a serviced-based, peer-to-peer goods transportation app which allows customers to access on-demand assistance with transporting large items to destinations at a fair cost. The state of the app at the time of my addition to the team was limited to a market of three cities within Central Arkansas. My role, as User Interface Specialist and User Researcher, was to conduct needfinding to determine the state of the current user experience with the app and to improve the experience for the customers. During my time collaborating on this project, the app extended it’s features to a more robust driver role; thus resulting in changes to the driver’s app interface. The team consisted of myself and the Chief Executive Officer with occasional collaboration with Marketing and Public Relations.

|SCOPE OF WORK|  

This project focus was to conduct needfinding to determine the state of the current user app experience and to improve the experience for the customers. During my time collaborating on this project, the app extended its features to a more robust driver role; thus resulting in changes to the driver’s app interface. My role was as the UX researcher, designer, UX writer and product manager for the product.

After project kick-off meetings, user archetypes and user journeys were created to humanize the user demographic.

Interviews took place to gather insight from both potential user pools. Interviews consisted of about 20 questions over five users. Here are three examples from that question pool:
Can you tell me about your decision to purchase a pickup?
Can you tell me about your experiences transporting large items from one place to another?
How do you feel about safety and security precautions when using public peer riding services?
These interviews were aggregated to create user personas and user requirements for the first iterations of revisions for the app.

The improved suggestions for user flow were diagrammed for collaboration.

The resulting wireframes provides a solution for users needs and an avenue for the business to produce a tier-service model to meet a range of users needs and address business requirements.

|  WHY SHOULD YOU CARE  |  

On this project, I acted as the sole User Experience Professional for every part of the process. I collaborated with stakeholders, the marketing team and public relations to make decisions based on user data. Having to fulfill every role throughout this process thrust me into a steep learning curve that taught me valuable skills as a User Experience Researcher, Designer and Writer.
